UTILIKILTS Made Outside The USA?

Utilikilts: Made in the USA
Sportkilt: I'm 99% positive they're made in the US, although certain things (i.e. sporrans) are from Pakistan.
Freedom Kilts: Made in British Columbia with American (I believe) fabric
R-Kilts: Made in Canada with Canadian and American parts
USA Kilts: Made in USA with material from UK
Amerikilts: Made in USA (not sure where material is from)
Stillwater: Made in Pakistan
Canadian Casual Kilts: Made in Canada

I'm not trying to exclude any company. I'm just listing the ones I know and am sure about.

Didn't the British Gov. decide to start buying the kilts for the Regiments from overseas?

I talked to a couple businesses over there. From what I can gather, they ended up using a Scottish company. The were looking overseas to make the Scottish companies drop their price.

I'm not trying to start a debate on the issue, but UK repealed the so-called "rule six." I know we had a thread on the matter but I can't find it, so you can go to the source and see it in their June '06 newsletter. I'm afraid your sig is out of date, OE.

A recent kilt purchase from Scotland (80s DPM pattern I think) had a nice tag proudly proclaiming "Designed in Scotland" with no reference to where it was MADE. For the low price I paid I was not surprised and the quality was decent.

If it says designed in Scotland it wasn't made in Scotland. this is the way some companies are getting round getting their cloth and kilts from elsewhere other than where they are.

IMHO it is a bit deceiving. Our kilts ARE made in Scotland with Scottish milled cloth and that what we tell folk.

I don't care where anything is made but just be honest about it.

Overexposed, I have two suggestions -

Contact Utilikilts directly, and ask them about their product. Posting hearsay about a company is of no help to anyone.

Confine your comments about Utilikilts' no firearms policy to communication with Utilikilts, we have no further need of it here. It really is quite simple - if a company has a policy you don't care for, refuse to spend your money with that company. No petulant rants required.

Thanks to all who replied to my question with civil answers. I learned some things about other kiltmakers as well.

I am glad that UK makes their kilts in WA (yes, I know its not CA). I am glad that financial forces encouraged them to repeal a misguided decision.

SOME of that was a result of the information that was posted here.

In regard to the UK _________ issue.....it is my personal opinion that ANY legitimate discussion topic should be allowed here (about kilts or those who make them). The _______ issue was a valid and significant decision by a major manufacturer. The way it was immediately suppressed was a disservice to those who may have had an interest in this topic.

Hard hitting discussions ( and even rants if kilt related ) should be allowed here. Makes for a good counter to reports of kilted guys in McDonalds and anxiousness for the next kilt to arrive.
