UTILIKILTS Made Outside The USA?
Greetings!
First, let me state that this UK question is NOT related to my simmering anger over the recent UK "we will no longer post any pics of customers who have guns" issue. It isnt.
I recently saw an ad for a Scottish kiltmaker who advertised "military kilts".
I stupidly made the mistake of asking if they make any sport-type kilts in camouflage (hoping to add a new camo pattern to my kilt collection).
The kiltmaker replied something to the effect that they make REAL kilts for the Scottish military and that (I am paraphrasing) "you should turn your attention to Utilikilts where they have their kilts sewn in India and then sell them through California"
My question is - does UK have their stuff made outside the USA?
Are there any other USA kilt companies who are, overtly or covertly, having their products sewn in a foreign land?
A recent kilt purchase from Scotland (80s DPM pattern I think) had a nice tag proudly proclaiming "Designed in Scotland" with no reference to where it was MADE. For the low price I paid I was not surprised and the quality was decent.
Most sincerely,
OE

Sounds like you may touched a nerve with a very proud Scot and proud kiltmaker. He was, at least polite, although perhaps blunt.

Stillwater kilts I believe are all of offshore manufacture... and very popular it would seem.

To my knowledge, UK takes a great deal of pride in only buying American-made fabrics, paying a solid wage to its seamstresses and making them all in Seattle.
They have gotten awards from their area's Better Business Bureau for their innovative business practices. They've actually discontinued certain fabrics because they couldn't get them made in America. That's what drives their prices up a bit, but they consider it worth it.
I tried finding their BBB award news but couldn't as they're still converting their website. I found a copy of their initial press release, though:

OE,
If you have bought Utilikilts from the company you know they are based in Washington not California.
If you own a Utilikilt, the label proclaims in is indeed made in the USA.
I believe that information is also on the Utilikilt website.
If you are finished with purchasing Utilikilts does it really matter to you?
I don't see any reason for mentioning the previous issue of Guns and the Utilikilt company in either the body of your message or your signature line.
I (like many others) certainly not wish to engage in further debate over it.
Sincerely

If a company is successful there will always be critics. Look at Starbucks McDonalds . Both started humbly with a good idea. Lots of success lots of critics. Other kilt makers should be glad that UK is bringing more people to the fold so to speak Eventually a guy is probably going to want a nice kilt and can't get it from UK. Happened to me. How about the rest of you guys?

Well not quite... Sounds like you may be in the east bound lanes while I'm in the west bound. I started with fully traditionals and am headed in the opposite (utility) direction at the moment.

Whether we like it or not, UK has brought kilts into the public's awareness. Saturday I went to a wine tasting room grand opening, wearing my Canadian Casual Nova Scotia and Sunday, I went to a party wearing my USAK Ireland's National. On both days I had someone ask me if I was wearing one of those Utilikilts. Ironically, I started with UKs last year and added tartan casual and traditional styles to my closet.
The UK is a gateway to other kilts and they have made kilt wearing more visible and acceptable. Kudos to Steve and crew!

Overexposed, I have two suggestions -
Contact Utilikilts directly, and ask them about their product. Posting hearsay about a company is of no help to anyone.
Confine your comments about Utilikilts' no firearms policy to communication with Utilikilts, we have no further need of it here. It really is quite simple - if a company has a policy you don't care for, refuse to spend your money with that company. No petulant rants required.
