The wording " Free shipping for each additional item from this seller's other listings! " is not dictated by the seller. It is an E-bay feature that the seller has chosen to use (I personally take $2.00 off instead of giving one free). Again this is an E-bay option and they created the wording. Now if the guy did hike the price up to $19.99 that was his fault (though sometimes with Pay Pals if you get a total and then add a new item it doesn't consider the discount until manualy changed by the seller). This guy is probably not trying to defraud you, and calling him a scam is really not fair (at this point - he may not deliver the goods and really be a scam artist).
This all comes from someone who had received bad feedback receintly because 2 customers were trying to black mail me into partial refunds.

I checked ebay's definition of power seller:
"PowerSellers are eBay top sellers who have sustained a consistent high volume of monthly sales and who have a high level of feedback (98% positive or better)."
So he is most unlikely to be a scammer even though his level of customer service appears to be wanting.

I never even asked for a refund. All I did was ask that he send me a total. I fully expected to pay for the largest shipping amount after receiving his first reply, then he increased the shipping amount. As far as the automatic shipping discount being added by EBay I think that sellers are responsible for their listing and EBay doesn't make you offer shipping discounts. My point is, I bid, I won, I paid. O'Neille

So I finally got tired of the back and forth sparring between us. I read everything that transpired and decided that an apology from myself for being "petulent" would cost me nothing and do no harm. I'd rather not deal with fighting about a negative feedback (Thanks Adam) if this spiralled even further into EBay oblivion. So now, I bid, I won, I paid, I apologized. This will be the true test of his "Integrity". O'Neille

My point was that the wording was E-bay's that makes it seem like the first one is the shipping price rather than the most expensive. And from your posts it sounds like he eventually worked out that shipping should be 14.99 (and the 19.99 was probably an E-bay thing that had to be changed manually), so what's the problem? How is he scamming you? Yes his second/third e-mails were beligerant, but look at it from his POV. Your note seemed to say that while you agree to pay the shipping of 14.99 you still feel like you're getting screwed. He asked for an apology or said you can take your business elsewhere.
Also I know you didn't ask for a refund. I was stating that as a seller, in the past year a great many buyers have been trying everything they can to get money back on perfectally good items. It doesn't excuse bad customer service but it does explain it somewhat. When a customer e-mails me politely, I try and work with them. When a customer immediately jumps to "you're a scam artist", I tell them to take a flying leap. And the "bad" customer thing has really grown in the last year, to the point that I have all but stopped selling on E-bay.

Adam, You should be a mediator. Exactly his point. My point was that the "EBay wording" was in error and should be changed. I didn't feel screwed or I would not have paid. I did feel held hostage to negative feedback and witheld goods. We've worked it out. O'Neille

I don't blame you a bit. Between the frivolous bidders who never pay, and the always-increasing seller fees, eBay gets less attractive for sellers every year.
I nearly soiled myself when I saw how much I paid eBay in seller fees over the last year.

Wow...... I completely agree with everyone. The wording should have been more concise. I would have most likely done the same thing.

The whole feedback thing seems dodgy to me. So much power over someone. Can you report someone for what you think is unfair negative feedback?
Also I have bought several things from one seller but it doesn't affect my rating - while I understand this is to avoid people boosting their rating fraudulently it still grates a little - perhaps they should have a double ratings system (total users and unique users).
I have really enjoyed using ebay to build up my first outfit and am glad to say (so far although I am only waiting on brogues now) have come through unscathed, perhaps I've been lucky.
O'Neille you are a bigger man than I, I would never have appologised unless I realised I was in the wrong. Then again I am a stubborn sod!
