    Question Large Man! Small Sporran!

Ok guys , I have searched, and searched, and searched. I can't seem to find the info I am looking for. I believe I have read somewere on this forum about a sporran for a larger man should be bigger. For those of you who have seen me I am a LARGE man.:food-smiley-002: Now I am getting ready to order a sporran and I don't want to get stuck with a Teacup size sporran for an Irish wolfhound size person. So this is my delima, please help?

Yeah I had the same concerns, that's one of the reasons I went for a Freelander. What kind of Sporran are you looking for?

Just something to wear with a casual outfit right now but something that I can dress up alittle bit if I need to.

Boy, do I have the answer for you. I've got two of these puppies.

www.nativearth.com look at their #6 pouch...its 9"x9"x2" I love it. They make it as a purse or possibles bag but it works great as a sporran too.

Here's a pic of the brown stuffed, crooked because it was loaded down with water bottle, camera, sunscreen, et.al. You can see how wide the top of the back loop is if you look close.

Like you, I've searched for a large sporran that will hold a lot of stuff and that I can get my ham hock hand into. One of my standard grumbles is why sporran makers and sellers NEVER advertise the size of their product.

This puppy is NINE inches by NINE inches by TWO inches deep. It has a wide loop deal on the back so it works well with a sporran strap. Great workmanship. Nice folks.

Here's a better picture of it full of hiking gear and straight.

I liked it so well I ordered a black one too. That's an antler button deal with a loop. The flap stays in place even if I forget to loop it because its so big.

Here's a pic of the black one. Same size. These puppies will run $150 with shipping but for me its worth it both with quality, value, and being able to hold what I need to hold...and then get my hand inside too.

The other large sporran I have is from Miss April's Carpetbags. She made it up special from buffalo with the fur on. www.missaprilscarpetbags.com
This puppy was $187 but cheap compared to some of the other fancy sporrans that are a lot smaller. Had this one made SEVEN inches by NINE inches by TWO inches. The flap is so heavy due to the weight of the buffalo hide I don't even use any closure device. The weight of it keeps the flap down.

Now you know at least two options for large sporrans.

Then most decidedly buy a Freelander. They are probably the best sporran I have ever seen. They are er...not traditional so to speak but can be dressed up or down. Check out Freelander Sporrano's website here: http://www.freelandersporrans.com/cms/index.php

Ron, I always love your photos! Those are some great sporrans, but Oy Ve, the funds involved. Not until the girls are out of school and married will I be able to afford multiple sporrans at that price. Not complaining about the price, just don't have the cash available.

I've seen some pretty big guys with the standard sporran and have not thought anything of it. I'd say it's probably not an issue. I think the Buzz Kidders are a good choice for a first sporran unless you are willing and able to jump right into a Freelander (I'm still dreaming of a Freelander).

Buzz Kidders appear wider to me than a typical sporran and Freelanders appear longer than a standard sporran.

I'd just pull the trigger, but if you are really concerned about it you could try mocking up the profile of a psorran in paper and place it infront of you to gauge the size that would look best.

Options are going to be very limited as far as a sporran goes though. You might find a pouch or purse that might work but it may take some modifications to kilterise it

The sporrans from http://www.leathersporran.co.uk/ are fairly big also...

Very good quality sporrans...thick leather and lots of space.

    Thumbs up Buzz Kidder

I gotta second Cavscout on the Buzz Kidder sporrans, I have 2, and have come to use them all the time except for more formal dress. Although not that good a view, I have one on in this photo with Aggie; http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=22361 (I'm on the right)

It measures about 7 3/4" wide and almost 9" high, so bigger than the average, at least bigger than any of my other dress or day sporrans. They are nicely made and IMO a good deal for the dollar. They have a big opening and will hold a ton of stuff too.

Yes, Buzz Kidder (soft leather) sporrans are larger than average, and so is the Stillwater Nightstalker (nylon) sporran. Both are also very reasonably priced.
