Perhaps I am jaded, it is such an ordinary thing to get a new Kilt, sort of like getting the morning coffee. Yet this thread reminds me of the reasons why I am Kilted. Oh the joy!

I think we're rather referring to the fact that those who DO have both, tend to have them in excess.

Although, the world's most tattooed man (Lucky Diamond Rich) often wears a kilt.

I don't think there is any connection myself.

There are many tattoed guys who don't wear kilts and many kilted guys who don't wear tattoes.

Being both a kilt wearer, and heavily tattooed, I don't see much of a connection, but both have taken me on some great adventures in life. I have met some really interesting people, and had some really great times because of either my kilt, or my tattoos.

To be honest with you, what I've done to myself took many many many... MANY nights of restlessness and deliberation with myself. It all boiled down to, I was not going to be happy unless I proceeded with each step I had decided on. First it was tattoos below the elbow. Then it was the hands. Then it was the neck. Then under the chin. The ears just seemed to get bigger and bigger and before I knew it... BAM! They were 1.5"!!! haha.

But, I worried and worried about what the overly-visible tattoos and gigantic ears were going to do for my future (jobwise.) I've honestly never had a problem getting a job. I walk in with my head high, and confident. Of course, I've never applied at a place that's obviously going to freak out on me. But, I'm now a laboratory manager for a HUGE international company. I'm certainly not saying you should run out and tattoo your throat. No no. But, I'm simply saying that all things can be overcome. It's all in what your priorities are.

My first body mods were ears (5/8), tounge (1/2) , labret (8 gauge) thats all for the holes as this be a family site. Now the few tats I got are mostly visiable. celtic sign for my zodiac on my upper left arm, pentagram on the back of my neck, branding of the stars in my zodiac on my upper right arm, 4 leaf clover on fire (sailor jerry style) on my right thumb web, and the suits in a deck of card on each fingers on my right hand. Took me a long time to get my first tat, I was almost 22 and had wanted the same tat since I was 16. the holes I have just got started by my g/f cause when I first started dating her she had 5/8, lobes and I thought it was sexy as hell on her. We broke up and now after 4 years I have 5/8 and she let hers grow back up, lol.

I only have two kilts (UK, mocker and workman) and have been in to see my tattooist eight times: (torn, bleeding heart wrapped in barb wire, red-eyed Australian tree frog on bamboo, axanthic (blue) White's tree frog on bamboo, fire-bellied toad on bamboo, big-eyed tree frog, red-phase gold mantella, and a painted mantella on branches, and a dragonfly carrying a gold key above my broken heart - my wife likes dragonflies, and has one tattooed on her back). Don't know what my next kilt(s) will be, but my next four tats are planned: jumping red-eyed treefrog on my left arm (bicep), tiger-striped monkey tree frog climbing a branch on my right arm, a chinese gliding tree frog on either my left shoulder or right chest (if there's room), and a pair of lips on my backside for those annoying moments when I'm kilted and have just heard a comment not worthy of a (verbal) response! Started the tats when I was forty, the kilts last summer at 44 years young.

I am also a bit late getting started. I had wanted a kilt for 10-15 years and finally made the leap earlier this year. I have also wanted a tattoo for twenty years or so, and just had my first one done last week. A Scottish lion on a German eagle background...looks sweet!
I now have 4 kilts and I am already designing my second tattoo. So maybe there is some connection.
I also have an addictive personality, but that is a whole other story.

I wanted a tattoo all my life, but never found a design, a trusted artist, and the funding, all at the same time. It finally came together for me at age 59. Now at 62 I have 12 tats.

I found the freedom of kilts at age 60....now at age 62 I have around 50...have actually lost count...jeez....

Also have an addictive core, but became a friend of Bill's in 1989.

So, you ain't the Lone Ranger.

My unsolicited advice is ENJOY!! And, its okay if your plastic smoulders a bit, just as long as it doesn't actually burst into flame.
