Greetings, I'm new!

Greetings, all,
My name is Sebastyen, and I'm new to the kilt, and really haven't worn one except to renaissance fairs and the like, though I must admit to really desiring to wear one nearly all the time. I guess, being in South Texas (where traditions die hard) that I'm nervous.
I'm studying to be a nurse, I'm 6'6", 320lbs, and love survival skills (hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, etc.) I ride a motorcycle roughly 90% of the year here (so, ah, going 'native' under a kilt would be a little uncomfortable for me).
Has anyone any advice for countering the possible snickers, sidelong comments, and inevitable questions of curiosity that I am bound to get when I make the switch?

I have fond memories of San Antonio, I was there for a church convention a few years ago, just near the Riverwalk. Nice place!
Sadly, I was there BK (before Kilts) so I can't say how being kilted would be there, no problem I would guess, like cities all around the world - full of ....interesting..people, who would object to a well dressed man in a kilt?

I think it would be awesome to make the permanent switch (except for my job, I can't see wearing a kilt as a nurse), I am hesitant because I'm nervous about it, more than anything else.

Start by wearing your kilt around the house, then for a quick trip to buy something. Pretty soon you will be comfortable enough and "forget" you have on the kilt and be wearing it every where. Remember, stand tall, be proud, and know that what you are wearing is the most comfortable thing there is! If you are nervous, it will show. When you are comfortable and relaxed and not worried about what people will say, you will find out there will either be no comments, or there will be nice comments. And if you do get that "bad" comment, you won't care.

I think you may notice stares and stuff for a while but you soon switch off to them. And anyone making comments to you (given your description) must be brave as well as stupid! Don't let it affect you.
