just don't put the generator indoors! It never ceases to amaze me how many folks kill themselves with generators and bar-b-que grills indoors.

We get the occasional ice storm outage here. Ran on generator power for 6 days a few years back. It really is a drag, so good luck to you.

By the way, you aren't running a desktop computer on a generator are you? It's my understanding that the difference in the current will fry your chips. Charging a laptop battery is OK, however.

quite true..if running a computer on a generator, you may want to have a UPS between the computer and the generator. a UPS ( Uninteruptable Power Supply) is basically a big battery that plugs into your power supply ( the generator in this case) to prevent your computer from being fried by voltage differences and electric surges.

Thanks for verifying that KT. The UPS trick is one I never thought of. Brilliant!

    Hang in John,

Reminds me of the big Columbus Day storm down in Oregon back in '62...same deal. No fun but lots of firewood laying around to be had.

You know my kids love when the power goes off because it lets be able to somewhat camp. Sounds crazy but they do.
