Thumbs up USA Kilts promoted in the Feb Utilikilts Newsletter

The most recent UK online newsletter had this to say in part:

For those of you looking for another option in the kilted life, we want to point you to Rocky Roeger and Kelly Stewart of USA Kilts.

They are announcing a new line of solid semi-traditional kilts. These might be just this thing for you if you are looking for a more traditional approach to the modern kilt market.

Why do we bring this up here? Because USA Kilts are good people.

There's photo and a link to USA Kilts too.

    Best regards,

    Jake

So Steven will generally give them a call, introduce himself, and talk to them about our protected innovations.
Innovations? Like they actually invented that style of pleating? Somebody had better not show them Matt Newsome's site and the old King-something or other style of pleating.

Good artists create, GREAT artists steal.

A bit of history to this...

I gave Steven at UK a "Professional courtesy" call before we launched the new line of solids (as I did to FK and R-kilts) to let him know what we were doing and to squash any "rumor talk" before it could start.

I had a pre-existing "open line of communication" with them from a few years ago when we made our "victory kilt" model. Steven came out to our shop and we had a night on the town (he ended up crashing at my place before heading back out to Seattle).

As I said to him... we're not trying to step on people's toes or take over the "contemporary market". We're offering a different product from anything that's currently out there. He told me he'd put a mention about the new line in his newsletter... but I didn't think we'd have THAT kind of promo! I have to drop him a line to thank him...

Actually, they do hold a patent.

Bah, the patent is no good and wont hold water. To many previous examples of that kind of pleating, and to many other kilt makers (No names) that use that style of pleating with out consequence.

Certainly not an innovation or a new invention, and should not be marketed as such.

UK has completely re-defined the American Kilt market and should be given credit where credit is due.

Also... this thread is not about their patent. This thread is about them mentioning us in their newsletter. If you'd like to discuss the logistics of their patent and the potential to defend it, kindly start a thread in the General forum.

Sorry for contributing to the thread drift.

If I were going to venture a guess, I bet the publicity will lead to increased orders for tartan kilts (as opposed to solids) from UK wearers following the familiar pattern of modern kilts wearers (re)discovering the exciting range of casual and semi-traditional kilts offered by USAK. (I know I hope to be among their numbers some day soon. )

    Best regards,

    Jake
