Cold weather wear
I'm not really worried about my kilted regions in cold weather as I've recently experienced the mid teens without trouble. However, I'm trying to find a cold weather coat to wear that will look good with my MacQueen tartan. Preferably something black.
What to you wear in cold temps?

I wear a Marmot ( http://marmot.com/products/product.p...style_id=I4758 ) jacket, and it keeps me VERY warm, and dry when the mercury dips.

I want to get an Ike jacket, but for now I wear a regular brown winter jacket gotten from JC Penny a couple years ago. The only problem is it's a regular length, so when I'm wearing a sporran it's tight around that area.

I've got my Grandfathers Ike from the military, but he wasn't as broad as I am, so I can't even get my arms in it. That is a good idea though, the right length for a short guy like me. I'll look on ebay.

I wear a big black duster. With layers. Or a black motorcycle jacket. Both can be very comfortable.

I think the most common characteristic of a kilt jacket is that it be a waist length jacket. Whether it hangs straight and loose or is cinched tight with elastic is more of a preference. I've heard that the heavier set guys don't like the cinched appearance as it may make them look larger but on a slimmer person it looks very nice.
try doing a search for kilt jackets or "cold weather jackets" on the forum and you should find several of the threads that have dealt with this issue in the past. I know recently there was a great thread about leather bomber jackets that looked great but were a few hundred bucks. http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/s...ghlight=bomber

Or, you could check out the leather kilt jacket that http://www.stillwaterkilts.com has available.
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

Even in the most frigid weather I usually wear a black leather bomber jacket over a heavy sweater. As I will be doing today, it's -21C and snowing...watch for pics.

Look at your local or on-line surplus store for the MA1 or N2B jackets and/or parkas. I found an online outfit that sells them for less than my local joint...always tempted to pick up a N2B but I never seem to get around to it...
