Splash, I am one of those you mention, however you have your good reasons for selecting this tartan, and I respect your choice! May we see the pleating? That is where the quality of a kilt shows, I think. In the meantime, I very much like the way you have selected and co-ordinated the colours - shirt and hose an exact match, and nice strong accessories in the only leather colour one can wear with this tartan - black. The beige shade is perfect. So many wear dark green or dark blue shirts and/or hose with Black Watch producing a very dark and heavy effect. Well done.

    Splash,

I think the Black Watch (two words Todd ) is a very good looking tartan, like Royal Stewart, I believe it is so popular because it is so handsome. If I hadn't been offered a wonderful deal on a Scottish handsewn Black Watch I would have been the first person to order one of Jerry's Heavyweights when they came in. It looks good and you wear it well.

    Cheers

Dang! I KNEW that! Sometimes the fingers type faster than the brain can think!

Thank you to both you and Hamish for the compliments. I will endevor to take a pleat shot later today. (I might have to brush up the pleats a little as I sit on them all day and am still learning the 'Hamish Sweep' )

Looking good. I too, received my SWK Heavyweight Black Watch in the mail today. I am amazed at the quality, and the radiance of the color. After a touch up ironing I'll remove the basting stitches. If the washing machine repair man gets here before dark I will probably break in my new kilt with a couple mile hike up in the hills nearby.

As for the politics involved with this tartan; I'll be wearing it on St. Patty's day here in Boston, probably coupled with my Scot's rugby jersey (I'm not Irish), and will bet anyone a beer that I'll recieve more comment about the jersey, than the politics of the kilt. But, this is off topic, so.....

I like the Black Watch tartan, the kilt looks great on you! The tan hose and shirt work very well with the colors.

Hmmm, must be the camera.... The hose and shirt are a light grey.

Aw! Don't worry about it Mike. Light grey works very well .............. but, light beige might be a tad better, bringing a touch of 'warmth' to the whole ensemble!

Which is how I see them. Monitors can really play havoc with colors. It can often be difficult to make online tartan selections, never knowing how faithfully your monitor is reproducing them.

You are right that many will not wear the Black Watch because of what the tartan represents, but the important part is that you enjoy wearing it. If you enjoy it, who else really matters?
