That's interesting. I'm still not sure if those black stripes are truly missing or just not evident in this photo.
What do you think Splash?

By the by, though it was really helpful, I don't think Jerry wants people taking images from the Stillwater Kilts site.

Actually it does match one of the Black Watch Patterns ITI number: 3695 Black Watch (Smallest Sett)
There are 8 different Variants of Tartans among the Black Watch designation.

Is that from searching at the Tartans Authority website? They call ITI 311 the Grant Hunting, which is completely wrong, so I don't have much faith in it.

This is becoming very interesting. I knew about different sett sizes as well as color variations from each mill (not to mention "weathered", "ancient", and other subsets of color). I was unaware that the actual tartan pattern could have variations.
Maybe Matt Newsome could clear this up?

As Listed by the STA
Black Watch ITI 207
Black Watch (Band Plaid) ITI 396
Black Watch (Course Kilt) ITI 1563
Black Watch (Fashion Variant) ITI 3698
Black Watch (Pendleton) ITI 3696
Black Watch (Piper) ITI 3095
Black Watch (Smallest Sett) ITI 3695
Black Watch Dress ITI 3094
These are those recorded by the STA.
That's all I am claiming, that the Pattern on the Stillwater looks as if it is the "smallest sett" pattern of the Black Watch.

While I am one who would not wear the Black Watch tartan - so as not to disturb my grandfather Murdoch Macdonald's eternal rest - It does look good on you....but ONLY because you are smiling. Keep smiling when you're kilted up in the Black Watch.

To add to the confusion like a good Discordian, I'll mention that House of Tartan weaves a version of Black Watch called Black Watch Miniature. It has a double black stripe on both sides of the blue in every square. It's also got a sett size of about an inch and a half.
