The Whole Nine Yards and then some
I purchased a Great Kilt a few years ago and, while I enjoy wearing it, it's way too bulky. I think I got much more than I was supposed to. It's in the Kennedy Modern tartan but it covers my king-sized bed twice with extra on both sides...
Anyone know of someone who can make this into a modern kilt? I've found I can't comfortably compete in the games with all that extra fabric...

Many of our kiltmakers here can make something of such a length of fabric.
Kathy, Rocky, Matt Newsome, and many many more...

A great question for a first post! Do a thread search for kiltmaker and you're sure to find lots of thoughts about good and great kiltmakers who frequent this forum and who do "modern" kilts.
Welcome to the fray!

Likely you got nine yards of 60" wide cloth.
That's twice as much as you need.

Maybe you could divide the fabric, and have 2 Great Kilts if its double what you need.

Matt could probably make you three kilts, a couple of fly's and some flashes.

If your fabric length is 9 yards of double width fabric, you can do the following:
Cut off 4 yards, keeping 5 yards to wear as a feilidh-mhor (which you will find much more comfortable).
With the other 4 yards, you can make or have made an 8 yard knife pleated kilt. Or you can use half of that for a 4 yard box pleated kilt with enough left for a fly plaid, or a vest, or other project.
