One time after I had picked up food from Jack in the Box I was looking at the receipt where, at the bottom, they were soliciting opinions about the whole Jack in the Box experience. The website was something along the lines of tell-jack.synovate.com. I found myself wondering what the odds were that the person who owned the Jack in the Box franchise in Bryan, TX was named Jack and wasn't Synovate an odd last name? Then it occurred to me that Synovate was the name of the survey site and the survey name was Tell Jack as in tell Jack in the Box.

More recently I got up from my desk to go to the bathroom and when it came time for me to go left to go to the elevator or right to the bathroom I went left. I waited for the elevator, got on, went all the way down to the basement and was about to step off the elevator when I realized that what I really meant to do was go to the bathroom. About this time one of the lawyers I work for gets on the elevator and gives me a look as I scan my security pass and press the button for our floor. At least he laughed when I did the polite clearing of the throat and stuck out my hand for a tip.

I"m going to have to think on this one. Two of mine have already been taken. The dishwasher trick and washing with no clothes in the machine.

Aside from various really stupid driving things in my pizza delivery days, I'm really bad with knives.
When I was a kid, I was replacing the plug on a small appliance. I cut the wire with my knife. The trouble was, the appliance was still plugged in. Zap.
Once while camping I was tying up a shelter from the rain. I was cutting a rope knot with the knife in my right hand and the rope in my left. When the rope cut, so did my finger under it. After much blood and six stitches, I still have a numb feeling in part of my left middle finger.
These episodes were a long time ago. I never do anything dumb anymore - NOT!

I did something really dumb at my friend's bridal shower. I was carrying a trey of deli meats and cheeses out to the patio. Well, she happened to have a very clean sliding glass door.

I done did that. That was pretty dumb.

I've also eaten some BIG burgers... Like the Big Ox Burger from the Oxbow Inn somewhere around Plain Washington.

Yeah, he had a hand in it. I think he's the one who shut the glass door when I went to get the tray.

    My most recent dumb thing:
last year, around the time I had the kilted-while-skiing pictures taken, my ski buddy and I went into a back country bowl. It's called maroon bowl because it's on the wrong side of Highland bowl and drops into the creek that comes from the Maroon Bells (if y'all havent seen these peaks you are seriously missing some spectacular mountains...in fact here's a link: http://www.fs.fed.us/r2/whiteriver/r...te/index.shtml

and another: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maroon_Bells). Anyway, the snow pack had been relatively stable all season and there were already tracks going down the bowl. We skied over to some people looking into the bowl and chatted for awhile. Finally, we decided to go for it. My buddy called his girlfriend so she could pick us up at a nearby ranch after we came down. My buddy looked over at me and said "you have your avalanche beacon?" I admitted that i did not. We then rationalized things for a bit and skied down anyway. The snow and the slope was some of the best skiing I have ever done in 32 years of skiing. We made it out with no scratches or anything else and I can now look back and tell the tale.

BUT, I risked my life and my buddy's life by not being prepared with proper equipment. Even now, when people ask me about it, I still tend to be a wee bit circumspect about my gear that day because it's embarrassing.

I tell this tale because I am thinking about it today due to the fact that two experienced skiers were just killed 48hours ago while skiing to celebrate the upcoming birth of one of their children. That child will now be fatherless because their dad was thinking about himself and not his or their future.

I was bouncing a basketball back and forth between hands. Then suddenly, 'WHAM'! I drop to the floor, writhing in pain. Bet ya can't guess where that ball made contact...
