But like Hamish said they only ask for two measurements. I think this is probably because they have to build the kilt around the special pleating necessary. so it would seems like there would need to be a standard waist to hip measurement so as not to screw that up. I don't know enough about kilt construction so maybe those that do could add an opinion.

I believe you could be right there, Chef. It is my guess that the pleats section is pretty much common to all Saltire kilts made - the saltire design itself demands that there can be no variations on that area or it would not work. The kiltmaker might be able to add pleats on either side for larger sizes, but is unable to alter the 'ready made' pleated section without destroying the effect. I really do not know.

Maybe I am lucky in that I am/was a standard stock size and that is why the waist and hips fit/fitted so well!
