Canada Post only tracks an expedited package to the border. After that you need to go to the US system to track it to your house. Express packages can be tracked the entire was via Canada Post. That is the only difference I can find between the two.
As to the time it takes to get to you from here. It's the border and customs that is the hang up.
Going South EVERYTHING must be X-rayed, scanned sniffed, and certified safe.
Going North EVERYTHING must be evaluated to insure maximum duty and tax is applied. Heaven forbid Canada misses those $.002 in applicable duty.
Dread, have you got your kilt yet? See what I mean. I shipped a kilt to Dread on the 9th via expedited post. I think Dread is on some list at the border 'cause he still doesn't have it.

If Dread had his (shipped on the 9th and traveling and traveling almost 2900 miles) and I don't (shipped on the 7th and traveling 440 miles), I'd probably cry.

It is not even showing up in the US system at all. No record of it at all.

In this province it will only say the parcel has been accepted at the post office. It won't indicate if it's at the border.
Now I will be sending Steve a package on Monday using expedited post and he will probably get it on Friday, he's some 3000km away from me.
I can send a package expedited to Ottawa which is 600km away and it may arrive two business days or one business day. So internal mail seems to go rather well.
When we xpress post the package to the States, this allows us to track every stop, I've seen the package hung up in customs a few days. So this indicates a problem at the border.
In Canada we seem to treat mail coming from the States better and for less money and quicker.
The bottom line is in most cases Canada Post is the best we can do. I suppose I should offer the choice to the consumer...but at almost double the cost most opt to wait the extra day or two or three or....
This still doesn't help Adam or Dread.....

My aunt in Cape Breton routinely sends me homemade dog treats that she bakes herself. The average time from her send to my receipt is 4 weeks. Granted, it is food stuff and gets held at the border for inspection, but c'mon...4 weeks?
The blazing speed at which the get tax payments to Revenue Canada, though, is mind-numbing.

just got the notice it arrived. 11 days including weekends. so it was in the realm of the 6-8 business days. It's those darn week-ends that slow things up.

Yes I did get it. I've just had both kids sick so had my hands full, or I would have posted. I'm very happy, full review soon.

I hope this doesn't happen to the X-Marks tartan Steve will be shipping out next week (or so).
