Both the current Dr, David Tenant, and Captain Jack, John Barrowman, are kilt wearers in real life which is an added bonus!
i have also see several of those including the feature length
"Darlek Invasion of Earth" which if i recall was really the first time i saw the Doctor, but when i looked for more it was Jon Pertwee in the TV show, on Channel 19 TVO (TV Ontario, PBS) and on Saturdays on channel 17 (WNED Buffalo) the broad cast hours of Doctor Who so while my folks were playing cards i was in the next room drinking in really thoughtful Sci-Fi.
after all the play was the thing.
the Darleks and the Sontarins are my fav villains.
i seem to recall an interview with Tom Baker saying that by his final season as the Doctor,
living in London it was a little like what happened to Christopher Reed Playing Superman in the USA.
suddenly everybody knew Him and wanted autographs and pictures.
i sure hope that the Doctor regains that kind of popularity.
interestingly enough Doctor Who is the longest running sci-Fi TV show in history.
Star Trek isn't even close because for most of it's history it's been syndicated re-runs.
