Black Donnelly's
I was just wondering if anyone else out there has seen the new TV Series "The Black Donnelly's" and if so what did you think? I have been really enjoying it. It's kind of a mix between the movie "4 Brothers" and "State of Grace" with a wee bit of "Boondock Saints" in it.

I just can't get into it personally. I just find the whole story line pretty week. Ayin McFye breaks up some great flicks, and I am sure had the Black Donnely's been a 2.5 hour movie it would have been great, but it's just a bit too boring and rehashed for my tastes in a TV show. I thought I remembered hearing that it was based on a family in Ontario (Paul Haggis is one of the writers), but it just seems like any other American gangster show, but with an Irish tint rather than Italian. I am glad that some people like it, but I will skip it.
I'll wait and see if Boondock Saint's 2 ever comes to light instead.
Just my two cents.

If I wanted to see that kind of stuff, I'd just move back to my old neighborhood. I've watched enough of it to find the plots and acting to be kind of forced. I hear the NBC has already axed the show for the fall season.

I heard through the grapevine (not a trusted source) that they decided to cancel the making of Boondock Saints 2. I hope that isn't true, but i guess we'll see. I really hope they don't stop making the Black Donnelly's though, because i'm really enjoying it. Oh well though, easy come, easy go. Not much we can do about it.

I have really been enjoying the Black donnellys. My first real job as a teenager was working for an irish "family". The Father and the sons were very involved in the underworld. Lots of similarities. The social network is amazing.

I enjoy it as well. I find some of it interesting, and others areas are somewhat predictable.

NBC is the only channel I have and I've seen 3 episodes of the BDs. I don't think it will make it. Bad-Boy Dumb male roles and very beautiful smart female roles (except for their taste in men). I'm not a big fan of any show that glamourizes lying to your Mother and perpetuates weak female stereotypes. O'Neille
