    Captain,

    Well speaking as a Moderator…

It is certainly not forbidden. To many, good whisky and good brew are the perfect kilt accessories. I'll have to confirm this though with Tim C. , Motorman4life, Alan H. ,Captainjak, The F-H.C.A.G., Walkerk, Cameron-Taylor and the rest of the gang about this when we gather for our monthly Beer Night...err Kilt Night. That said we have a few Teetotalers in the Nor Cal Rabble and they are fine folks that we are proud to count them among our crew).

You are welcome to talk about scotch here on X Marks.

However, Pour1Malt does have an excellent point about how this would be a perfect discussion for "The Pub". For those not familiar with it, “The Pub” is our sister site and is for talk of food, drink, and tobacco. The various forums include different spirits, beer, wine, home brews, cigars, pipes, and cocktails. The nice thing about posting there is that the information in the threads is easy to find in the relevant forum instead of perhaps getting lost in the “Off Topic” section of X Marks the Scot. It’s a little different in tone to X Marks and has a different group of Moderators (Any place where Iolaus is a Chairman of the Board is worth checking out). To post there you do need to set up a new user account.

    Here’s the link

Or just click on “The Pub” on the column on your left.

We certainly encourage everyone to check it out, after all where else are you going to find the recipe for a Basil Gimlet.

    Hope that cleers things up.

    Cheers

    Jamie

After all this writing about the Pub, I wonder if it's too early for a Gibson.

I be one of them non-drinkers on the board, though I certainly have years of experience with extreme alcohol ingestion. Do think that pub place would be the right venue since alcoholic beverages are a lot like food.

The alcohol (grain alcohol, ethyl alcohol, ETOH) is common to all alcoholic beverages. The flavor differences are in the carrier vehicles for alcohol.

So that, seems to me, sort of like cooking stuff....cow meat is cow meat...what can we add to it to make it taste good? Wheat flour is wheat flour...what can we add to it to make it taste good? Alcohol is alcohol, what can we pour it into to make it taste good?

So the cooking/blending/mixing forum in the pub makes sense to me.

Aye, it would be good in the Pub. For whatever reason however, I have not been able to post there. Yes, I set up my account and can sign in. That said, Laphroaig is probably my favorite, especially the cask strength my son got me for my birthday. Wonderful stuff.
