Tried my 2nd Single Malt... Laphroaig!
The wife and I went out to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse for our anniversary tonight... 2 $50 giftcards covered 2/3's of the bill... With dessert I ordered a Glenmorangie which I've heard a lot about, trying to expand my single malt scotch experience past the bottle of Highland Park I've just about finished at home... So dessert comes and is mostly gone when the waiter comes back... and notices I still have no scotch... He swears up and down that the bar told him it was delivered and goes to get me my scotch... 5 minutes later the manager shows up at our table... The bartender went to pour me another and dropped the bottle, breaking their only bottle. To make up for it he offers me Laphroaig, on the house of course. Not one to turn down free alcohol, I happily accept his offer.
WOW. I love my Highland Park, it beat the pants off of every blended scotch I've ever tried (except maybe JW Blue), but it's got nothing on Laphroaig... Smokey, Peppery, and Peaty, yet smooth... It was amazing... Guess I'm an Islay kind of guy! I spent a good 35 minutes drinking that 1 1/2 ounces of scotch... there was no way I was rushing it!
Anyway, just thought I'd share... now I gotta find somewhere that actually stocks the stuff and hope to God it's not expensive, because I think I found a new "Regular".

$39-$42, depending on where you are. about $10 more than Highland Park. HP is a great value, but there's nothing like a good Islay. experiment with some of the less expensive Islays like Bowmore legend, and McClellands at about $20. Not as smooth as Laphraoig, Ardbeg, etc, but you never know what you'll like. I'm sure P1M will have something to say on this too. Try searching for threads on Islay, here and at the Pub.

I'm drinking my after-work-unwinding Lagavulin right now. My favourite is Ardbeg, then Lagavulin, then Laphroaig. Love the peat.

Enjoy while you are young enough and fit enough. Scotch Whisky is addictive and rots the liver. I used to be into seriously into single malts when I was younger but no longer drink alcohol at all.

Laphroaig does have a wonderful flavour.
I drink it on special occasions, but try not to drink much other than that.
Having grown up tasting a lot of whisky, I think Laphroaig really is one of the best.

Laphroaig became my firm favourite over 20 years ago when friend introduced me to it. That was until a bout 5 years ago when I discovered Bowmore. Now I have to fight myself between the two ! The fight is so difficult at times that I just have to have one of each ( or more) !

No offense meant, but talking about something not everyone participates in doesn't make it wrong... I clearly labeled the topic and if they don't want to discuss alcohol they can keep on browsing past the topic... no one is forcing them to read each and every topic...
I've never posted at the pub and didn't know how many people were over there, not to mention I've seen many posts here about all different manner of alcohol, but especially single malts (it is in fact where I've gotten most of my single malt knowledge - most of it from your posts P1M). Not to mention the posts concerning meeting in pubs (in real life), how much was consumed during said gatherings, etc., etc., and didn't realize it was a forbidden topic.
