    another recent encounter

    and in those rare moments...

i had a cool encounter over the weekend. the wife and kids and i were at a local chain restaurant called "Sweet Tomatoes". while there, i walked past this older couple and the man said in a serious tone: "you and had better be a Scot!" it caught me off guard a bit and i just responded with a smile and a thumbs-up gesture. he smiled back. i couldn't help but thinking, what if i wasn't a Scot? would the kilt be confiscated? i'm sure (i hope) he didn't mean it in that sense.

and then near our table was a family (new born to grand-parents). the dad of the bunch complimented my kilt (UK Original olive green) and started asking how it fit etc. he said he had two AmeriKilts and two Stillwater kilts. we also talked about wearing kilts to work and such. i mentioned i can do that now, and he said he could as well. i don't think he was from my area; perhaps visiting for the weekend. i gave him a Utilikilts b-card with the Xmarks web address on the back. like a doof i didn't get his name, nor offer mine. (i have this shy streak i am trying to kill, and it won't die completely.)

i think this random encounter was awesome. i gives me the idea that this is spreading. however, i have yet to see someone else in this area in a kilt (outside of kilted events). what gives?

(((i wonder if we should start a new category in the forum for us to post stories of public encounters)))

Sounds like a really great experience, Ian. Glad you passed along the Xmarks address.

=) Its always awesome when encounters with other kilt wearers happen. Great story and maybe we will be greeting someone new to the forum. Maybe we should start a new section. They are always so fun to read.

I guess my only problem with the fellow was that he seems to think you must be a Scot to wear a kilt But WE all know better

Great experience, thanks for sharing. Sweet Tomatoes is one of Judy and my favorite Raleigh restaurants. Unfortunately we only get to Raleigh 3 -4 times a year.

Nice second encounter, not so sure about the first, although I was talking to my sister about it the other day and our general concensis was that either Scots are happy go lucky or right missirable buggers, he must have been the later.
Good for you for passing on the word about our wee forum.

"you and had better be a Scot!"

means "I hope you are regimental"
