Hmmm... People still replying to this? Wow.
I should probably give an update about this whole situation.
So, I sat her down and had that chat I mentioned. Come to find out that the main reason she picks on me about wearing a kilt is because she knows she can usually get away with it. She said that she didn't like me wearing it because it's a solid black AmeriKilt and she says it looks too much like a womans skirt, I showed her a couple of tartans that I'm thinking over and she seemed to like the idea of wearing tartans over solid colours.
And that's about it as far as how things have progressed...

I guess it's all in personal opinion. I have a Maple Leaf tartan on order, but after that one, I'll be buying a black shadow from SWK. It looks sharp on CCGA (Grant), and is about as close to a solid colour as you can get without being solid.
CCGA and Wompet both had on solid (more or less) kilts last night, and they both looked fine.

I've been looking at the old photos of soldiers wearing rugged-looking solid-colored kilts. They sure don't look like guys in women's skirts to me. Still some people think kilt = tartan. Oh well.

The Irish Guards wear solid saffrons, & I defy anyone to tell them they're a bunch of girls...
Me, I prefer tartan, but I have 2 solid blacks, I dont think I look like a girl in them. Neither does my wife.

Photos a-plenty of the Toronto Scottish regiment, that wear Hodden Grey kilts.

Just to clarify, in the Irish regiments, usually only the pipes and drums wear kilts -- the only kilted Irish regiment, to my knowledge, is the Canadian Irish Regiment.

I kinda figured that it was the solid color.
If you're going to try and make a go of it with this gal, especially since you're bringing a child into this world together, you need to remember one of the most important things. Communication can solve most problems. It's amazing how many times just airing your feelings can solve a problem before it even arises. Oh and also, communication does not mean arguing and hollering at each other.
Best of luck to you my friend.

As I have posted in the past it is better to wear a tartaned kilt as it takes away the obvious questions. This holds especially true for the newcomers as sometimes their a little self concious about their appearence. I have nothing against solid kilts but they often cause a slack jawed stare in the uninformed.
