Ancient Grant Hunting 16oz. 8-yard

Well I finally got to pick up my kilt today. Here are some quick pictures. I apologize for the picture quality (has to use the timer and pose quickly) and the state that our bedroom is in.

First, here's what I got:

You know, I like the look of my off-white hose when wearing my Modern Grant, even for casual wear, but I'm not much liking it with this new kilt. Maybe because of the shirt colour I'm wearing. I do intend on getting some lovatt blue or green hose to wear with this kilt. They'll have to wait for a bit though.

One of the neat things I wasn't expecting was that I got all the scraps. Anybody got some suggestions for what I could do with these:

I think the off white hose look pretty good with this kilt (match the white of your shirt), I'm not sure about lovat green or blue though. True...both will match the green or blue of the kilt, but I'm afraid the kilt won't stand out anymore (someone correct me when I'm wrong here

)

Oatmeal with a matching (polo) shirt...always safe and the kilt will stand out nicely. Another idea...maroon hose with a matching shirt.

The kilt looks great! I know you'll enjoy it.

As far as the scraps go, depending on the size of the scraps, you can contact Turpin about a sporran and tartan flap.

the only other thing I can imagine is more flashes, or maybe tartan badges to wear behind kilt pins and cap badges. If you enjoy sewing I guess you could sew them all together into a "patch" style scarf maybe? Make kilts for GI Joes

Looking goo. I second the idea of matching the hose to the shirt rather than the kilt. Gives the whole outfit a nice balance. And with a kilt in those beautiful colours, you'll want it to pop out.

Congratulatons on the new kilt, I see you still have a tag on it in the pleat shot. I am sure that this kilt will give you years of wear, it may just become a family heirloom. As for the hose question, I tend to match my hose and shirt colours, my reasons for it are two fold, firstly I think it brings an outfit together rather well, and secondly, I can wear the all various combinations of shirts and hose with almost all my kilts.

I'm liking that maroon idea, but I think that might have to wait until the budget allows it. Do any of you know where I can get some decently priced maroon hose? Somewhere in Canada would be preferable, just for duty and delivery reasons.

For now I'll try to find black hose because I already have a black shirt.

Yeah, I still have the tag on it. I tend not to remove tags from anything clothes until the first time I'm going to wear the garment "for real." Just in case.

I hope it will become an heirloom; I hope both of my kilts will.

Hopefully I'll have some pictures when I have the kilt on and I'm dressed up a bit better. My 1st wedding anniversary is in exactly two weeks and I intend to wear when my wife and I go out to celebrate.

Oh, since I didn't mention it previously. The kilt was made by Lochcarron. The tag actually says: Highlander by Lochcarron. Once I get a chance to wear it out I might write up a review and compare it to my Celtic Craft Centre kilt.
