are kilt hose always the product of "knitting", or is there such a thing as "crocheted" kilt hose?
Although I have always used knitting for the main part, as it is elastic even if not using a rib pattern - for the fancy bit at the top crochet is usually rather good as it can be made using one of the many border patterns for shawls and some of them are very handsome with all sorts of points, dagging or do dahs included.

You can do just the fancy tops with a bit to tuck in and make plain or ribbed socks without turn overs to go with them.

I suspect that entirely crochet socks might be uncomfortable unless done very fine, and that the lack of elasticity would be a distinct drawback for the leg part at least.

    Done!!

Sorry this is late. I picked them up from my Mum on Canada Day. Yes, I did wear them Canada Day with my Maple Leaf tartan kilt, but sorry I have no pictures. But I did borrow my neighbours camera to get a few shots of the hose. Man it's hard to take a good picture of your own leg!!

My Mum used a patteren of her own for the cuff. (Oddly enough it kind of looks like the Lewis Hose cuff)

With my kilt (sorry it's dark)

    All Dressed up

She is alreay working on another pair for me. This time balck cuffs with a dark green hose. I can't wait!!

Very nice indeed! I like the definition of each stitch and the soft colour, almost traditional off white but a wee bit more interessting.
I planned to finish my black hose during a holiday in Sweden but the midgies thought otherwise ;-)
