    Bad kilt days

Plus or minus response at being seen kilted among members seems, on the whole, to be on a reasonably even keel.
Just out of interest, have there been any occasions where wearing a kilt has been one of the worst decisions you ever made?

Where I live we get "Santa Ana" winds... steady 20-30 mph with gusts upwars of 50 mph... on those days I really regret leaving the house kilted... other than that, nope, no negative experiences.

One time in the Windy City I wore a Sport Kilt without a sporran.

    Jeez that was dumb.

Another day I was at a rural skate park and got harassed by some skaters. After I'd had enough, I called one the guys a word that starts with the same letter "fruit" starts with, and turned to leave. As my friend and I pulled out of the parking lot to leave, the punk and his friend came around the corner waving guns at us. Naturally, we left in haste. That was probably the worst. O_o

Surprisingly, the event that bothers me the most is the first time I wore my kilt out in public at the mall. Somehow the sheer amount of attention was unnerving then. It was Christmas time and the mall was flooded with people, and I was too inexperienced to accept their stares.

Clearly, you aren't familiar with some of my worst decisions...the kilt doesn't even rate in the top 500...

On the rare occasions I am not kilted I still sometimes wish I had been.

An interesting topic, as far as bad days or even the worst, it is hard for me to pick one as I enjoy wearing the kilt so much.

I would have to say though that if I have a bad day because I am in a kilt it is only because I have allowed the ignorance of others to ruin my mood. I wish some of my family members were more supportive, however even the most upset with me have learned to hold their tongue.

On the whole it has been a very rewarding experience thus far.

Can't say that I've ever had a time kilted when I wished I wasn't. I have had, however, many times that I wasn't kilted that I wished I was.

The only time I ever regreted wearing a kilt was right after I first moved to Austin.I went to a street festival in the afternoon the temp. was over 100 and I was wearing my heavy 16oz. 8 yarder. There was no breeze to give me that cooling up the kilt draft and shortly there after I bought my first sport kilt! Lesson learned! As far as problems with people, Austin is a pretty wild place full of unusual an unlikely folk, so generaly me wearing a kilt is a non event...rarely remarked upon at all.

    Cheers,

    Mike
