Whenever someone tells me I can't wear a kilt, or a particular tartan, I look at them and slowly say, "but they'll arrest me if I take it off."

Again, great minds think alike!

I have a similar line. Since I am a big whopping I tell the fashion police that if my attire offends or in any way fails to please them I will remove it promptly. Tends to snap them out of it. Quickly.

Seriously, I do not know what makes people do what they do. When I was a student taking programming classes at CLC I took the metro back to D.C. late @ nite.

Most of these times any woman on the mostly empty cars would regard me with some sort of contempt or such, clutching their little can of mace. I am a big lad and not easily mistaken for Brad Pitt. (long before I was aware of the power of the kilt...)

Sometimes the ladies would just walk right up to me and start chatting. Finally I figured it out. Apparently ONE TIE in my collection, purchased from a Chinatown street cart, made me look approachable. I renamed the polyester thing the "chick tie" and soldiered on.

It never ceases to amaze me how what I wear seems to have some strange power over complete strangers. Especially within the dark side of the force.

I have to believe at some level there is some projection going on and the wardrobe excuse for the contact - good or bad - is just a "cover story". My best guess circa 0822 hours. Subject to further review of course.

I had a similar weird experience with an Armani suit. Before you think I'm rich, whatever,... I found it in a thrift store, had a tailor fit it, and for a little over a hundred bucks, I've got an Armani.

In context, that suit does to salesmen, businessmen, and snotty places staff things that my kilt does in the real world. Creepy. Most of my buddies take a while to notice it, actually either clothing. That's why we're buds.
