I wouldn't worry about any of those. Black Watch and Royal Stewart are far more over used than any of these...

I agree. The "shock and awe" factor of the Loud McLeod is definately high but I wouldn't call it feminine. There are opinions that a man in colours not generally seen as masculine is somehow MORE manly because he has the guts to wear it. I have a bright pink shirt I wear in memory of my sister (it was her favorite colour) and all the comments I have gotten about it have been to the effect of "it takes a real man to wear a hot pink shirt...".

Don't have a Thomson camel, which I think is the only fashion tartan of the three. Black Stewart, aka mourning Stewart sometimes - think there was just a thread on this - is one of my favorites. Have it in a Sport Kilt but plan on getting a USA Kilts semi-traditional in it when my plastic stops smoldering. And I do so love the loud MacLeod.
There's something about the loud MacLeod that fits with the high of being on the edge wearing a kilt...sort of heightens the thrill. When I ordered mine I was afraid I'd gone too far...but when it arrived and I wore it out I loved it from the git go.
Wore it to a local Pow Wow dance this spring and it was tame compared to the dancer's regalia.

Black Stewart Sport Kilt with sewn down pleats and custom length.

Jeez, have some fun...get proud, get loud!

Ok, this is kind of off topic, but I noticed the sett in Riverkilt's Loud MacLeod kilt isn't quite the same as the sett shown in sirdaniel1975's link. The link has the tartan with 9 equal-sized black squares. Am I missing something?

It would appear that the poly vicose Loud Mcleod tartan that USA kilts is using is a variant on the true Mcleod of Lewis sett. The difference is fairly minor and no one doubts it is LOUD MCLOUD!

It never occurred to me that certain tartans could detract from (or add to) my masculinity, neither have I heard any negative comments when wearing my Thompson Camel tartan kilt.
But what are the opinions here?

I like the Thompson camel, looks masculine enough for me.

Think you're meaning that the Thompson Camel is a fashion tarten thats very frequently used for women's garments...?
