    Best laid plans of........

Tomorrow we had planned a kilted day out at the Loch Lomond Highland games, one of the biggest games in the calendar. The games are being held at Balloch Castle Country Park, a siutable venue if the weather is ok. Also on tomorrow about a mile away on the Loch Lomond golf course is the third round of the Scottish Open, a good appetiser for next week's British Open at Carnoustie.

As I sit here in front of my PC at 11.05 pm, the rain is battering down, it can't come down quick enough. The games venue is going to be a mud bath and the golf tournament will also affected by the continual rain.

Traffic will be exceptionally heavy going towards these venues tomorrow as there really is only one road from Glasgow to Loch Lomond. We knew that there would be traffic jams tomorrow but we were prepared to put up with that but the weather forecast is for more rain tomorrow.
As you can guess from what I saying we are pretty disappointed that we will probably have to give tomorrow's games a miss. I can imagine the state my kilt shoes, hose and kilt will get into tomorrow with the rain and mud, it probably is'nt worth the bother.

Nevertheless, the eternal optimists, we are heading next Thursday for the Isle of Mull where the Tobermory games are taking place, so even if the weather is bad we will still be going as we are staying for 3 days and we have paid up front (do I sound like a mean Scotsmen?... I hope not)

Anyway I am going to pour myelf a large Glenfiddich and forget about our attrocious Scottish summer. Slanje!

Yes, its not been the best of weather for Scottish events this year. The Scottish Pipe Band Championships in Dumbarton was spoiled by the rain and mud. Our local games here in Hawick were curtailed by the mud though at least the rain stayed off for the afternoon. Ann and I are planning our annual week in Lochaber, hoping to take in the Lochearnhead Highland Games at Balquhidder next Saturday (21st) while passing through en route to Spean Bridge, then the Arisaig games on 25th July. Hoping for better weather.

    Hi Jimmy,

Two weeks ago, I was driving along the road that follows Loch Lomond (en route from Dumfries to Connel by Oban). It was a rare, for this year,
sunny day and, having crossed the Erskine Bridge, I stopped at Balloch to stretch my legs:

I could see Balloch Castle across the loch from where I stopped and a few minutes after resuming the journey, I passed the golf course you mention. There were signs everywhere advertising the Loch Lomond Highland Games and I remember wishing I could have been in the area this weekend rather than back home in deepest Sussex - maybe, however, I did the right thing as we had a dry day and I was able to do a little gardening!!

Its a brilliant picture of yourself standing at the banks of Loch Lomond. I know exactly the place that this photo was taken, its at Duck Bay just at the southern part of the Loch, the Duck Bay Marina and restaurant is quite near.
Funny thing is despite torrential rain on Friday night, yesterday turned out a dry afternoon. I sat at home watching the golf and seeing some very good weather at Loch Lomond, the weather forecast was well out
