Great Kilt and Flashes?

I'd like to ask:

Is the belted plaid (my preferred term for a GK) for reenacting-type purposes?
-Then, a pair of cadadh and a tie-type garter would be IDEAL.

Is it for "modern" dress?
-THEN, a "normal" pair of hose and flashes would be fine. THOUGH, a set of matching cadadh and tie garter works too in THAT situation.

As you will have a yard of "extra" material, I'd go ahead and make cadadh (not hard) AND a set of flashes (there should be PLENTY of material for both).


Out of curiousity, how long is the BP now and how long will it be once reduced?

My garters are two strips of red wool, an inch wide and about 30 inches in length. As mentioned, sewn hose is proper for a "period" get-up. The seam runs up the back of the leg, and the fabric should be sewn on the bias (diagonal). I like the footless version - very easy for my limited sewing skills...!

I noticed that nobody answered your question regarding proper footwear to wear with your BP



I made these after a pattern used by my reenactment group. I'm not totally convinced of their historical accuracy, but I think they look good and will suit my purposes for now.
I did a very non-PC thing by gluing on Birkenstock soles on the bottom.
Historical Jacobites didn't walk on concrete or broken glass.

Those pucker-toe moccasins are perfect for period wear. It's cheap to make your own, but the soled versions (like in Brasilikilt's pic) can be purchased here:
