There's something about the loud MacLeod that fits with the high of being on the edge wearing a kilt...sort of heightens the thrill. When I ordered mine I was afraid I'd gone too far...but when it arrived and I wore it out I loved it from the git go.
Wore it to a local Pow Wow dance this spring and it was tame compared to the dancer's regalia.

That tee shirt probably helps limit the number of comments. 
I think most people who make derogatory comments do so out of ignorance, most of them are not sophisticated enough to take the colours into account. They probably just notice the brightly coloured kilts more. I think you give them too much credit.
