    During WWII one term was "junior birdman", from this little ditty:

    Into the air, junior birdmen
    Into the air, upside down;
    Into the air, junior birdmen
    Keep your nose up in the brown;
    And when you see all those birdmen
    With their shiny wings of tin
    Then you will know the junior birdmen
    Have sent their boxtops in!
    A variant of this song is sung in To Hell and Back, the story of Audie Murphy.

    Two things... first, if you haven't already, please vote in Rocky's poll. It'll be a better counter for him than this thread, as to who wants the tartan woven, who'll put money down, and so on. Plus? He's given it a more obvious name than I did. Bad me.

    I had a friend in AFROTC that I used to tease about the "Air Farce." At the U of Az, on uniform day, you'll see the Navy and Marine cadets going about dressed all in the same uniform... but the Air Force kids will be wearing half a dozen different ones. It just made me laugh.

    Not sure I get this one. Care to elaborate?

    Find a picture of the air force dress uniform. Compare it to other services dress uniforms. The other services uniforms look like uniforms. The Air Force dress uniform looks like a tuxedo.
