    Old Soldiers fading away....

I have decided after 24 years of Service to The U S Army as a Officer/Nco/EM to finally put in my papers.

I am going to tour the USof A and finally really see the country I have fought and bled for since June 14 1983.

Last week I bought the motorcycle I am going to ride on my cross country tour and I am going to try to get used to the idea of handing over the rifle to the next generation of soldiers.

Good for you Top! I can't imagine what the transition will be like for you. It even took a while for me, and I only served 5 years! None-the-less, you certainly deserve it.

Thanks for your service. My father was a career man, and he took awhile to adjust, but he did alright-you will too. Don't forget to come see us in Denver while you're on that tour. I don't drink myself, but if I'm heeled when you show, I'd gladly buy you a round of whatever you're drinking.

Having gone through, what you are about to, I can offer some real advice.

You will go through some interesting times, strive to keep an open mind. Where ever you visit, always search out like minded individuals. Almost every town has a VFW (If you're not a member, join now, they welcome people like us.)

Talk to old people! Ask them how their feet are! Don't rush. Get up early, and take an afternoon nap. The best travel time is before rush hour! Take a camera everywhere and use it. Log on to X-Marks in out-of-the-way spots, and keep us informed!

    Good luck!

a big THANK YOU for your service... my dad did 27 years.. I did 10 years..people take for granted the freedoms we have and don't think about the people that make sure we still have them. Enjoy being a civilian you have a well deserved break coming to you...make sure to stop by Georgia on your travels....

After 24 years service I should think any soldier from any army is entitled to a spot of fading.Just dont fade too quickly, or those youngsters that have "picked up your rifle" will not hear those stories of how it used to be.Again and again and again and........!
