Hand painted lead soldiers
I don't know if anyone else has painted lead figures but here are some of mine, from the Anglo-Zulu War. 24th Regt. of Foot v. Zulu impi. All of the outfits are 100% historically correct in colors-except I forgot to go back over the helmet liners, belts, ammo pouches and dirty them up. I painted these 20 years ago. I did several hundreds of these figures, I think they are 15mm.

I've toyed (no pun!) with the idea...but I just can't compete with my buddy Moe. He told me that he was working on a diorama of the Alamo...I figured, cool...something little and nice. We went over to his house to watch a Bears game and he showed us the "little" diorama: eight 4X8 sheets of 3/4 plywood on custom made risers entirely covered with Alamo...256 square feet of Texans and Mexicans. Unreal.
I have been eyeing some of the little paintable Highland Regiment figures, though...

I have a bunch of Games Workshop miniatures I had to build and paint myself. Mine are all either plastic or a lead free white metal, in what's called a "heroic" 28mm scale. What do you do with your mini's? Display them? Make dioramas?
I actually play a game with mine called Warhammer 40k so the paint job doesn't last as long as it should unless I spray a hardcoat on top first.
I'll put some of my pics up as soon as I can dig them out to scan.

I used to paint Games Workshop miniatures, oh, about a million years ago. I sold them all years ago, but I was able to scrounge up a few photos.

Andrew,
Shading on Asmodai's robes is very nice. I always find it hard to shade such light colors. So did you play Dark Angels? or Chaos?

Neither, I played Eldar, and had a Dogs of War army for Fantasy. I just painted those because I wanted to - I got tired of painting the same thing over and over again! I did paint a bunch of wood elves in kilts, though. That was long before I even dreamed of wearing a kilt myself.
I always thought of getting into the more historical figure gaming, but never did.

I never did figures, but years ago did a bunch of sailing ships in two scales for two different games: the board game "Wooden Ships and Iron Men" (ships about an inch long), and a table-top game "Beat to Quarters" (really nice ships about 4 inches long and highly detailed)....
