...The threads on starship vs starship tipped me off that there are an awful lot of geeks...I mean...sci fi fans and comic book types hereabouts.

Well, Tony always was referred to as an International Playboy...sort of a military/industrial complex version of Hugh Hefner.

It's just having Robert downey play him...sort of like having Sam Jackson playing Nick Fury...it's revisionist comic book history. If you read the Ultimates series from Marvel the characters all got a little more edgy and it was very obvious that the artist was basing his Nick Fury directly on Samuel L. Jackson. This is what happens when the comic book company starts producing its own movies.

I've been watching this since news broke about Robert Downey playing Tony Stark. I'm not sure I buy it... but I'll go see the movie!

Iron Man is my favorite Marvel hero, so I would probably see it if they cast Dick Butkus as Tony Stark.

The animated direct to DVD movies Marvel has been coming out with have been pretty decent. Ironman was last, I think, and Dr. Strange has just been released.

Yeah, I've got a couple of the OAVs in my netflix queue. Doctor Strange has long been one of my favorite comic characters, and I'm looking forward to seeing if they've done him justice this time.
