Battle of Britain Day
“Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few....if the British Empire and its Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still say, "This was their finest hour."

Thanks,
My father occasionally flew Spits for the RAF in 1942...but mostly he flew Hurricanes. Was on the Dieppe Raid. Of course that was after the Battle of Britain, but he was a Montana boy over there before the U.S. forces arrived. Some noble notion of defending the ancestoral homeland.

Yes thanks for posting PiobBear, Lest we Forget. The anniversary has been rather muted this year - the annual Battle of Britain open day at RAF Leuchars was not held this year as they are re-surfacing the runway to accommodate the new Typhoon Eurofighters.
The tragic crash of a display Hurricane in Kent, England, yesterday, with loss of the pilot's life, has also put a damper on things this year.
I was on duty at our aviation museum today at Carlisle Airport and we had unusually few visitors - though it was a very wet and windy day here.
We did have the Vulcan opened for viewing today, with RAF World War II veteran Newby Tate in charge of the guided tours.
