The blade is for cutting the metal foil on the top of the wine bottle, and then you twist in the little screwy thingy into the cork, sort-of like a cork screw, then you put the hooky thing-a-ma-jig on top of the bottle and pull up till you break the cork. Then you push the cork pieces down into the bottle and pour the wine though a napkin, so as not to choke on the cork, but you do spill a bit and get wine all over your hose (but missing the kilt!) thereby forcing you to die the hose a very dark green.
Or at least that's how I remember it!

Oh I see, poor you, you drink the old stuff. Us more refined just unscrew the cap or drink directly from the box.
