My Son has discovered Valentine's Day

OK this is my 11 year old son last night:

he starts tossing clothes about his room looking for that "perfect" tshirt that will go with his jeans. (This is a child that never cares about his clothes and I'm not sure how any of his tshirts would not match his jeans) After selecting the perfect many shirt he takes a 45 minute shower. Then proceeds to look through his scented body sprays. Narrows the selection down to two and brings them to me.

Son: "Mom, which do you like best"

Me: (chooses the least stinky of the two) "this one"

Son: *Looks closely at the label and grins while reading a portion of the label out loud* "If you spray it they will come" While grasping the bottle in both hands he gets this grin on is face that reminds me of when he would sneak into the candy jar at my mother's house and says as he heads back to his room "Its a magnet.... its a magnet.... its a magnet"

Flip forward to this morning. Boy takes another shower (kid hasn't been this clean since I brought him home from the hospital) gells his hair, sprays way too much of that crap on his body, and tucks a heart shaped box of candy into his back pack before heading off for school.

    I am in serious trouble!

Ah to be young and in love again! I guess one out of two isn't all that bad!
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

They grow up so fast eh?

Next night out, I'll give him a few tips on girls. Namely, run away as fast as you can.

    yes...you are...

...but if it's any solace, when my daughter, now 15 then twelve, was in that grade in school she commented many times about those "body spray" things and how all of the girls thought that they made the boys smell "icky". Perhaps you could have forstalled the inevitable by recommending the more - shall we say - fragrant choice of shpritz...it might have the opposite effect and keep him a happy, unattached eleven year old for a little longer...

Hmmm... having gone through this with four daughters and a son, let me just offer you this advice - I suggest you begin to drink heavily.

I'd say "wait until he brings home the fiance," but I don't want you to give up hope quite yet.

And finally, this thought: Grandchildren are our reward for not killing our young when they're teenagers.

Good luck, and enjoy the ride (as much as possible).

How cute is that?! My 6th grade teacher kept a camera for Valentine's Day. I've got a very embarassing, but cute, picture of my and my secret admirer.
Hope he ends up with a good woman who knows how to cook.

Dread, you say that and I've seen you make kissy faces at your lovely wife. (not that I blame you) but how is the boy going to take you seriously?

    Excellent suggestion!

My son actually cooks and tends to be the type of person that prefers to spoil someone else.

be lucky he wasn't wearing a kilt.
I think he honestly considered it.
