My update and a good story:
The correct size for my Black Watch and new Black Stewart arrived today! SWK are my heroes! I made my way to the seamstress to have them hemmed (for I'm not a tall gent). I kilted myself in the dressing room for only the second time and stepped out...
...and during my absence an attractive woman from the tanning salon next door had come in to pick up a pair of skirts. She turned, looked at my slightly-too-long kilt and smiled, "That's a great kilt!" she exclaimed.
And in my somewhat stunned brilliance replied, "Um...yeah! Thanks!" We traded a few more pleasantries before she left, but I wonder if Mr. MacDougall's 'magic of the kilt' is more fact than fantasy.
Going kilted Friday night! Woohoo!

"Kilt magic" is a fact! I have had two recent encounters...and for a happily married, old, fat guy it is heartening and somewhat scary!
Be prepared!

As another fat, old man, I can testify to women's responses. At a religious conference which I spent kilted, I was told by one woman that an elderly lady commented to her that I had the legs for wearing a kilt.
Hamner, now I'm curious to know if you're going to wear your maternal tartan...and how!

As much as I love my dear old Mom and despite my great fondness for her family, there's just no way I'll put myself in a pink and purple kilt. My little girl, on the other hand, has already requested one.
There's an interesting development to that, actually. I used TartanFerret to look up her family name and came up with an entirely different tartan that isn't bad at all. I'll probably hold off on a big money kilt for some time (and I imagine this custom kilt would cost a good bit), but that might be my first.
Next on the list is the American Heritage kilt, I think. Or possibly the USAF - I'm not certain.
