Irn Bru is such a standard thing here that I thought you were joking - only in the US could any type of flavoured fizzy water be discussed so solomnly.
It is sold in original and diet forms in the local Tesco supermarket, along with ditto of dandelion and burdock, cloudy lemonade, and various fruit flavours.
Some drinks from my childhood which I have not seen for ages are the cream sodas, strawberry and raspberry flavours were the usual ones, though they were hardly distinguishable by tasting.
My current favourite bottled drink is summer punch, multi fruity with an aftertaste of mint and something else. It is rare to get a complex flavour in a pop bottle.
Some pops and squashes are more useful to me as dyes than drinks. When putting together various cloths for patchwork they can sometimes require an overall toning, easily done with a bottle or three of something cheap and nasty to give them all the same overcast.

Aye. Some here pay a premium to purchase Coca-Cola bottled in Mexico, where it is made with sugar, rather than corn syrup, as it is in the states.
Best regards,

Really? Thank you for pointing that out Trefor. I never visit those soft drink aisles - or if I do, I am whizzing down them so fast (to check the current Gin best-buys) that I do not look at the shelves!!
I will make a point of slowing down on Thursday when I do my weekly 'shop'! Thanks again.

Hamish,
You must stop there, if nothing else to replenish your supply of tonic water!
(Says Panache who makes a visit to said aisle for this very reason )
Cheers

I grew up on Irn Bru (explains a lot actually) and I get it for the Scottish events we cater. The most interesting description of the taste I heard was that it tastes similar to St. Joseph's Children's Aspirin. I never had that aspirin so I can't comment on the accuracy of the claim.

Best drunk straight out of a cold Barr's glass bottle!

Bit of a heid on me today after a night on the Mick Jaggers so looking at that pic is making me tempted to nip out for one.

Well, if that's the case, I can't wait to get my hands on one...that's actually one of the best flavors that I remember from my childhood.
We also used to have these waxed cardboard drinking straws that were lined with flavoring; as you sipped milk through them, they flavored it. Hadn't seen them for literally forty odd years and I just found their contemporary counterparts at the store the other day...my daughter doesn't understand why I was dancing up and down the aisles after that.
It's good to get a blast from your past especially when it's a flavor or a smell that you associated with good times.
So let's bring Irn Bru to Chicago...somebody is missing a hell of an opportunity here!
Best

So when used as a mix - - - ?
Just what goes good with Irn-Bru?
Tequila? Gin? Rum?
Can't be Scotch - the only thing that goes with Scotch is melting ice!
