Congratulations! And welcome from a fellow Valley Kiltie! Just keep wearing the kilt & it'll become 2nd nature to you after a while.
I've been wearing kilts in the Valley here for over 4 years - wear 'em all the time - to work, shopping, restaurants, church, when I'm DJing... I get plenty of compliments & about the only ones around here who seem to have an issue with it are some of the more recent Latino immigrants or some of the more narrow-minded Rednecks. Seems a guy in a "skirt" is too much of a challenge for their limited idea of what a "real" man wears, what with their machismo or Marlboro Man images they cling to. Since I have no reason to respect their opinions, I just ignore their ignorance.

Plus, a light-weight kilt makes a lot of sense in our desert environment. I mean, everything else out here is air-conditioned, why not our clothing?

Wait until you can afford a hand sewn kilt...you can really STRUT then!
Meantime, have some fun. Next time you're at the mall have your wife walk behind you about 20 paces then ask her to tell you all the crazy things people say and do after you pass them.

OH THAT'S A GREAT IDEA! I've never thought of doing that before! I bet it'd be hilarious to be a fly on the wall and hear some conversations that people are afriad to actually say out loud. I will be testing this theory here soon.

That's a great idea riverkilt unfortunally my wife is not keen on the idea of me wearing a kilt yet. I am having to wear it mostly without her, hopefully she will get use to the idea soon.

Wow you definitely need to come out with me and my lady sometime. We'll both go kilted and maybe my lady can talk with yours about adjusting to being with a kilted man.
