So I'm outside a Border's book store last Sunday, when an older gentleman (mid to late 60's) walks by and says he likes my kilt (UK Black workman's). Now he's pushing a woman in a wheel chair (I'm guessing his mother cause she doesn't look a day over 117), and she actually asked the question. I told her, "Only my wife knows for sure," and she went into the store laughing.

After all my time wearing the kilt, I still am amazed why it's OK for people to ask the question.

But it is part of wearing what we wear, so we might as well go with it.

I once even thought of printing up some sort of card to carry around just for that.

Maybe have just your name and e-mail on one side, and on the other something like:

What is worn under the kilt? Pick one:
A. Nothing - everything works.
B. Shoes and socks.
C. Only my wife knows.
D. It costs $100 to find out.
- - - well you get the idea.

I usually answer the question with "Do You Really Want to Know?" This answer I found in a post by Matt. That 100% of the time makes the asker happy. My parents came out to visit this last weekend, and it was the first time they had seen me in the kilt. What did my mom do? She came over, nothing unexpected, while I was sitting, and said "What are you wearing under that thing." I was not regimental, but still my parents then ganged up on me saying I should wear shorts under the kilt. I told them it was more traditional to wear nothing under the kilt.

Strange NA concept, most other places, once you're out of the nest, you're on your own.

Can never imagine my parents doing that to me. Mind, I was raised kilt-minded so I had a head start, so did they, but still....

"A father and mother receive a frantic call from the hospital. Their son's just been hit by a car. They rush to emergency, "How is he?"
"Oh, it's terrible, come this way."
They see the emerg doctor, "How is he?"
"Just terrible, come and see."
They all come to the room and there's the surgeon, "How is he?"
"Oh, it's terrible. Just look at the state of his underwear!"

Anyway, as far as the start of the thread, yeah, I pick and chose how and what I answer. It's like Groundhog Day. You're going to get asked a thousand times, you can try a thousand different answers.
