Re Hose;
I usually match hose color with t-shirt, unless there is a predominat color in the kilt.
e.g. For "Irish National" I'd wear green hose and either green or dark yellow shirt.

I have heavier kilts for winter.

Heym that's still a lot better than the like... 10oz kilt my Dad has.
