Hey WSCOTMAC,
You ain't that far from Atlanta. Why not drive up for the Stone Mountain Games next month and immerse yourself in a huge selection of kilts from a lot of various kiltmakers. Wallow in it...nothing like being able to eyeball kilts and feel them, talk to kiltmakers of all ilks.

Little late, but I'll jump in here.
My only kilt is a J. Higgins job. I'm very happy with it, and it fits wonderfully. Very, very classy work. The material is woven in Scotland and I had to wait for the particular tartan, but he came through in time for my brother's wedding. The local pipe band goes with his kilts exclusively, saying that Higgins has never let us down.
When I ordered a custom skirt for my wife, he was very good about the whole transaction and communication with him was very precise and professional. She now has a silk skirt in a Hunting MacLeod tartan (ancient colors) that matches my kilt very elegantly. Higgins did suggest a wool skirt in the same fabric, but she wanted silk and I wanted her to have it.
This is not to run down any other kiltmaker. I've just never dealt with another. Yet.
