My newest accessories
Here's a few new toys recently received
I've not seen many folks with this style of sgian dubh, but I like the rough and functional image of it
Some excellent Navy kilt hose (for some reason my Black ones did not arrive so need to sort that out Monday) these fit perfect around my 19" calves.
These are some early Christmas presents for myself, but also in preparations for buying my sons their first kilts for Christmas. I'll be picking up another Officer Sgian Dubh for my eldest and hope to find 3 Desert Tan Glenns for each of us.

They are from Gaelic Themes in Scotland. They can be found in the Tartan Web Banner add at the top of the page, but I've also got 5 pair of the Navy hose in Large (US size 12 - 14) I'm selling. Drop me an email from my web site if anyones interested.
I'm really very pleased with these items. The Sgian is very solid and the hose are 70% wool and 30% nylon. Quite thick. They don't stretch out and show skin through them like my thinner hose. Unfolded, they come above the knee about 3 inches or so.

Nice stuff, I like the hose unfortunately my wee feet would swim in those sizes.

I was also a bit concerned about that. I wear a 10-1/2 shoe and they fit perfectly at the foot and the ankle. They fit snug to my leg the whole way up so you see the full shape of the leg. I'm very pleased with these.

I really like those sgian dubh. Been threatening to buy one of those for a while now. Theyre really slick, I love that they have the beer opener and cork screw on them.

I glad Steve that you too have fallen under the spell of the "Swiss Army Sgain Dubh" It is the only one I stock in my shop. I can attest that although not great steel it will hold an edge. And the corkscrew works very well. I opened the wine at our Robbie Burns dinner and sold three in about as many minutes.
The hose are Gaelic themes "Pipers' Hose" and I'm wearing a pair exactly like that right now. Next to my own "Heritage Hose" they are my favorite.
However, I have learned to open each and every package to insure the size matches that on the packaging. About 30% are mislabeled.
Now quit buying stuff with my money and get back to making my belts.

I have found the GT hose run small. A large is tight in my 16 inch calves, and my 11.5 foot stretches it out.

Steve, I'm having a real hard time finding any cows that want to go north this time of year...especially considering my terms I do have a stack of leather on the bench as we speak though.
Turpin, are you using the Pipers Hose or their standard kilt hose? I had the same problem with the standard kilt hose which is why I've been on this quest for kilt hose that will fit my large calves. Short of the fantastic Heritage hose, and hand knitted hose form other vendors, these have been the best looking and fitting. The next step down from here are my Hamilton Dry Goods socks which are very nice, but not as thick so you can see skin through them in the darker colors.
Scotty, the sgian is a pretty heavy tool. It will need a snug sock to keep it in place (not a turnicate, but just enough to create some compression on the leg).
