If there is a market disruption and pakistan can no longer supply the kilt market, I'm sure there are other nations with the labour source and technology to replace them.
That said, I still don't think worrying about fewer affordable kilts is an appropriate response.

I wish no ill will to fall on the hands of a kilt maker, no matter what nation they come from. That said, I look forward to Pakistan returning to a kilt producing nation.
Kinda neat those guys make a lot of our gear.
Cheers

That has certainly been a topic of interest for me, I was planning on making a trip there, not so sure at this point.

We cannot waste time on trivial matters, like the collapse of nations & homicidal dictators. Besides I'm jonesing for my Wallace, and there better not be bullet holes in it!!!!
(One simply has to have a sense of priorities, you know....)

I wouldn't expect much cheering from the low-cost labor.

After a busy week of stocking, shipping and price markdowns in my own store, I can't help but wonder about the demographics and other marketing factors as they relate to kilt buyers. Were one to go by this thread especially, it would appear that PRICE, especially a very low price, is THE primary driving factor in mass market, off the shelf kilt purchases. Perhaps the Costco phenomenon is at play here, wherein sourcing, material, and longevity play distant followers to a basic, essentially serviceable kilt that can be had at low prices? On the far extreme, and probably a considerably smaller demographic, are those who opt for tailor made, custom construction, with premium fabrics. What I wonder about is the actual percentage of the mid-range, those who want essentially hand made, though "off the shelf" better grade kilts, whether "traditional" or casual. OR, has the Costco factor, as it has in most of retailing, become the dominant trend?

I think the existence of this forum shows that price alone isn't a driving factor. I found Xmarks by searching for information on cheap suppliers I'd found online. This forum is full of reviews from people with many different opinions on what they want out of their kilts and supplies. I would say that quality for price is a driving factor and that yes, many of us look for a good price, but then again not all of us have the disposable income to spend on essentially hand-made items, nor money to waste on shoddy cheap products.
As for how many people place price over quality, I think that the number of higher-quality kilt-makers as compared to the number of (for want of a better word) "Costco" kilt-makers is likely much higher than the percentage of traditional tailors to traditional garments.

Jerry, Jerry, Jerry,
Know you're a wise man and will listen to State Dept. advice about the wisdom of visiting Pakistan right now. You probably have enough support to get randsomed if held for same...but human's tend to be poor dodgers of flying lead. Hope/know you'll use caution.
