    Stillwater Kilts, Heavyweights

After talking and listening to a lot of advice, I finally jumped in with both feet and ordered my first kilt. I put the order in to SWK on 11-03 for the Weathered Lamont in my size and got it on 11-09( there was a weekend in there). At the same time I ordered the WPG khaki hose that a lot of you were talking about and it should be in my mail box today. I also ordered the flashes from the Scottish Tartan Museum and got them on 11-10, and orderd a buckle from Frugal and am still waiting for that(I don't need the belt yet). I'll order another sporran (the Rob Roy model) from Tartan Museum and the belt and sporran strap from Ocanee Leather shortly.
The kilt is great. Since this is my first, I don't have any to compare it to, BUT this far exceeds my expectations. Though a Heavyweight, it is not heavy, but surprizingly light(I'm in line to get a solid green from SWK when they get more stock). I finally got a chance to kilt up on Sunday 11-11 and eventually got up the nerve to take out the basting stitches. Now it was MINE! I wore it all day and even grilled outside kilted. I am going to wear it this Friday when we our Dinner Club comes over and hope that I remember how to properly sweep my pleats. SWK, thanx a bunch. Kudos to Matt N. and those at WPG for getting the orders to me quickly. Do I sound excited or what? We are planing a hike this weekend up in the Flat Tops and I AM GOING TO WEAR MY NEW KILT. YESSS!

Enjoy your Weathered Lamont! I love mine. Though I'm having trouble deciding if I like it more or less than my Heavyweight Solid Green Shadow tartan (one of my very favorite kilts)...

    Cheers

    SWK heavyweights

The solid green is my next purchase as soon as SWK gets more of them in in my size of 42. Thanx for the encouragement.

The SWK heavyweight are not really heavyweight. They are about 13oz as compared to 16oz for a 'tank'. They also use about 6 - 61/2 yards of material as compared to tanks. Having said that they do make wonderful first (second and third) kilts. There are even some who only buy SWK and are perfectly happy. Sounds like you have your ordering well in hand and have taken the advice offered here, properly.

Just FYI- from the SWK website on the heavyweights- "Most sizes use a full 7-8 yards of 100% wool fabric." My Nightstalker kilt is awesome for an inexpensive kilt. However, you're right- it is certainly not a true heavyweight 16oz kilt.
