Stillwater Heavyweights
Hey a question regarding Stillwater heavyweight Kilts;
My wife for fathers day wants to get me a stillwater heavyweight but I want to get an opinion or two on the quality and style/kind of wool being used in them?
Thanks to all who answer in advance!!!

I have three stillwater heavyweights. And while they do not compare to the 13oz and 16oz house of edgar and locharron wool, they are very nice. I wear these when I want to be kilted but do not want to risk my $600 tank.

That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

I have one of their heavyweights and it's great. Don't think I'll be wearing it during the summer but otherwise I would recommend it to anyone. The workmanship is excellent and you can't beat the price.

I have two Stillwater Heavyweights, one solid black and one solid green. I think they are sturdy, well made, and very handsome (especially the green)

For the price, I don't think they can be beaten. Well made from quality materials. Neither hand-sewn nor tailored-to-measure, but a quality product with superb customer service. I almost suspect that Jerry has your order pre-boxed and ready to ship, that's how fast he gets the kilts delivered to customers. There has been a steady and noticeable improvement in the quality of the kilts he offers over the last few years: I recommend him without qualification (other than being off the rack). Remember the standard 24" length!

I think they are made of merino wool. I find it to be softer and less prickly than worsted, which is better for ATL summer. I wear them, but I work indoors and move from a/c to a/c. the only downside to the SWK heavies is that the waistband is not cut out so the kilt doesn't move as well around the midsection and feels hotter there.

Saffron and Weathered Lamont Stillwater Kilts
I have the two kilts mentioned above. They are good quality and you can't beat the speed of delivery or the price. They weigh over 4 pounds! so they really are heavyweight.
24" length means, I think, that you should really be around 6' tall to wear them comfortably.

I have the HW Saffron. I really like that kilt. So much so, I'm looking at getting a black Shadow Tartan. I don't think you will regret the investment. Next to a Hand-sewn wool tank, I'd say PV and the Stillwater HW's are a tie for second in my book.
