We put our decorations up at Christmas - that is, 24th December. Usually in the afternoon.
Then we take them down on Twelfth Night.
I suspect that they might be considered slightly restrained in design and extent.
I do tend to buy the largest tree I can find -a response to the tiny artificial tree we had at home, I think, but that is the only extravagance.

Hear, Hear! It's not even Advent yet, and I had to put the tree up...under protest, of course...yes, dear...

That's the tradition we followed when I was growing up (in Chicago).
