So, did I win?
I came up with the great idea to just leave them up all year once. I was living in military housing at the time and apparently somebody complained because I got a warning letter saying that I had to take them down. It really annoys me when people feel a need to complain about things that don't concern them and it was only a week before independence day so, rather than take them down, I laboriously replaced every bulb with alternating red/white/blue bulbs then replied to the letter saying that my Christmas lights were taken down and my 4th of July lights replaced them.

Today I was a good family guy and did all the outside decorating: one of those plastic light-up Nativity sets with figures about 20" tall (I built a wooden "stable" thingy to place them in. With spruce boughs and little white lights on top it looks pretty cool). Also, little white lights on the bushes (non-blinking! I hate the blinkers!!).
The best part was my Dad gave me all of his old fashioned strings of lights with the large-sized bulbs (some of them dating back to the `50's). With these around the windows, we now have a "retro" look as well.
The tree won't go up for a couple of weeks yet....
One of my favourite displays I have seen is a lighted lawn deer gutted and hanging from a tree.

There are 10 kinds of people in the world...
Those that understand binary, and those that don't.
