Interesting Reaction

So, I am sitting in the Boston airport waiting on a flight to Toronto. I am flying kilted in my SWK Saffron and a black sweater. Since I had some time I of course headed to a bar. While sitting there, a gentlemen walks up to me and said: "That's an interesting kilt". By itself not anything, but this gentleman happened to be Scottish. He seemed a little put out that it wasn't a "real" or "traditional" kilt. However, in his defense, he didn't go all "kilt police" on me or anything like that.

Just thought I would share!

Was that his only comment? Or did you guys kill the time, by talking kilts, and buying each other drinks?

What are you doing sitting at a bar in Boston, you're supposed to be sitting in a bar in Burlington!

It is highly likely that the only solid kilts in Scotland belong to a certain flying gentleman in the Borders. It's hoped that he left with a little more knowledge, I know I've had a few comments about my black SWK more so than my camo.

I had a similar comment from a Scottish gentleman in North Vancouver while wearing my khaki Freedom Kilt. He wasn't put out, though, and seemed quite interested when I explained that it was a cargo kilt.

Not quite. In Glasgow a couple of years ago a voice from behind me called out hey that's a fine kilt you've got - when I turned round he was wearing an all black wool heavyweight almost identical to the one I was wearing. I've also seen a few black kilts around Edinburgh - there is a bar/restaurant in the Stockbridge area where all the staff wear black kilts from 21st Century Kilts. I also spotted another guy in a black kilt here in Hawick recently and of course Scocha often wear black kilts at their gigs. So plenty of black kilts around, but I can't recall seeing any Saffron kilts around here.

I've had a number of Scottish tourists here in the canyonlands stop me and ask me about Utilikilts I've worn. They ask with a sincere interest and not a hint of criticism.

And I love the "saffron and black" look.

Is that all the interaction that occurred? You must have forgotten the two rules of X-Marks:
1. Educate the un- and mis-informed
and
2. Weasel a free drink out of somone who was initially unenthusiastic/insulting about an awesome kilt.

I think that you have your priorities reversed. Shouldn't it be:

1. Weasel a free drink out of somone who was initially unenthusiastic/insulting about an awesome kilt.
2. Educate the un- and mis-informed.

If you're really good at number one, number two comes much easier!
