Remarkably, there actually are some people running around out there who enjoy being condescending and insulting. I imagine that, in their own minds, everyone else is just there for their amusement. When I was younger, I was teetering on the edge of being like that but fortunately my humanity kicked in and I understood that it was much more important to be open and kind instead of being glib and "witty".

It sounds like you maintained your dignity very well...on behalf of all of us who wear the kilt, thanks for "keeping up the side" and not allowing yourself to be baited into lowering yourself to that unfortunate woman's level.
